For Regular Classes

Foundation Course

This One Year course (July-June) is suitable for all beginners of Hindustani Classical Music. This course will provide the necessary foundation to develop the student’s musical acumen.

Each student will be made to
  • Understand the comfortable Scale/Shruthi for singing
  • Understand the Indian Tala systemand Laya– Basic knowledge of Teen Taal, Kehrava, Dadra
  • Understand the Indian Swars and sing each swar in its correct frequency (7 ShuddhaSwars and 5 VikritSwars)
  • Sing the 10 basic Alankaarsin Sargam and Aakaarwith perfection in Sur and Taal
  • Understand the fundamental principles of Hindustani Classical Music giving the student a strong foundation in Music Theory
  • Understand Raga system and Raga Lakshan (characteristics)
  • Sing SargamGeet, LakshanGeetand ChotaKhayalin Raga Yaman with Kriya and Taan
  • Sing Light Music / SugamSangeet

Intermediate Course

This Two Year Course is applicable for those students who have completed Basic Course provided by Alaap Music Academy.Here the student is gradually exposed to Hindustani KhayalGayaki to perform BadaKhayal and ChotaKhayal as done in the Gwalior Gharana Tradition.

The Student will be made to: -
  • Understand different types of Swars and sing them in Sur
  • Sing Advanced Alaankaars in Sargam and Aakaar with perfection in Sur and Taal
  • Understand and Sing various musical ornaments like Kan, Khatkha, Meend, Alaap, Gamak,
  • Understand various Layas like Viambit / Madhaya / Drut and Sing Sargam,Aakaar
  • Basic knowledge of Ektaal, Roopak, JhapTaal and SoolTaal
  • Sing Raga Alaap in Swar and Aaakar.
  • Sing BadaKhayal, ChotaKhayalin different ragas with musical ornaments, Kriya and Taan
  • Sing Light Music / SugamSangeet / Ghazal / Geet / Bhajan / Thumri / Dadra / Kajri /Hori &Mand

Advanced Course

This three Year Course is applicable for those students who have completed the Intermediate Course provided by Alaap Music Academy. Here the student is taught Ragas of increasing complexity and trained on the nuances of Raga improvisation and application of various musical ornamentsas done in the Gwalior Gharana. The students are given individual inputs to develop their performance skills. The student is also taught how to apply this musical knowledgewhile performing light music

This course is suitable for students who wish to pursue a career in Music as a Vocalist or a Music Director

The Student will be able to: -
  • Play and sing along with a Tanpura.
  • KnowlegdeofLayakari – Dugun, Tigun, chowgun , Aad , Quad, Bi-aad
  • Identify Ragas, understand nuances of each raga, differentiate between similar ragas
  • Sing Dhrupad Dhamar / Bada and ChotaKhayal
  • Apply various musical ornaments
  • Sing Advanced Alaankaars in Sargam and Aakaar with perfection in Sur and Taal
  • Understand and Sing various musical ornaments like Kan, Khatkha, Meend, Alaap, Gamak,
  • Understand various Layas like Viambit / Madhaya / Drut and Sing Sargam, Aakaar

For Examination

Alaap is affiliated to Prayag Sangeet Samiti and is conducting examinations for those who wish to pursue their studies in Hindustani Classical Music. For Diploma/Degree courses, separate examinations are conducted for Music Theory and Practical. For Practical Examinations, Student has to perform a Raga based composition(khayal) in their course along with live Tabla.

On completion of examination, the student is provided with a Course Completion Certificate
